It was during this time that I came to understand the idea that "it's okay to think for myself and create my own path in life," marking a significant turning point in my life.

Exploring the possibilities of hand tools and traditional techniques, the "Shaving Gathering" focuses on activities such as planing. As a carpenter, I participated in this international artisan exchange event held in the United States and Germany. Together with artisans from various countries, we erected a torii gate in a German forest. Overcoming language and cultural differences, we worked together on the torii gate project.

28歳 ドイツ削ろう会へ参加

鉋削りをはじめ、手道具や伝統技術の可能性を追求する削ろう会。アメリカやドイツでも開催される国際的な職人交流会に大工として参加。各国の職人たちとともに、ドイツの森に鳥居を立てる。言葉や文化の違いを乗り越え、心を一つにして鳥居建立プロジェクトに取り組んだ。

"Shaving Gathering"

A project dedicated to creating traditional Japanese and German huts using only handcraft. Four Japanese individuals, including myself, were selected as the head carpenters. I, too, led a team of artisans from Japan and Europe in this endeavor.

手仕事だけで日本とドイツの伝統的な小屋を作り上げるプロジェクト。日本人4名が棟梁に選ばれ、菱田もその一人として、日本とヨーロッパの職人チームを束ねて作業にあたった。

- Establishment of Hishida Construction Co., Ltd.

Since the establishment of the company, I have taken a two-week vacation with my family in Belgium every January, staying with Matis, a carpenter who graduated from Leuven University. While admiring European buildings, I learned about European architecture by interacting with local people.

Becoming a Unique Carpenter Artist

Because I graduated from elementary school, I carved out a path that differed from the typical carpenter. Continually exposed to European art and architectural culture, I embarked on a journey to understand the essence of "earthly materials," "human craftsmanship," and "beauty."

- Work as an artist

Believing that creation encompasses all learning, I engaged in an architectural project with the architect Bart and the artist Fritz. While typically architects conceive and carpenters build, a carpenter who thinks while building is considered an artist. As both an architect and a carpenter, I became a rare presence in Europe and around the world.

- Design of the Lore Klaars Residence in Belgium

For the Lore Klaars residence project, I was entrusted with the design of the renovation of an old farmhouse. After presenting the design, the project was decided to commence in 2024.
